A Quiet Approach

Five minutes earlier there was the distant sound of a train whistle high off in the hills. And then only the wind could be heard rustling the sagebrush and stirring the grasses.

And shortly after, if you looked hard into the far hills you could see a train snaking its way along its course. And still there was quiet and the cold steady wind. Then a mile away came a growing but heavy sound and bright lights, the seeming slow approach of the empty coal train. And then just as quickly, gone, into the evening and the dusk and then into the night the train rolled eastward.

Music: “Keep Your Skillet Good And Greasy,” traditional. Played on a Martin Orchestra Model Cut Away Guitar. Garageband.
